Mossman Mill and Chocolate Factory

The proposal to build a combined cocoa growing and processing, a chocolate manufacturing plant and tourist facility on the site of the Mossman Mill necessitated a master plan of the entire site. Careful analysis of the site led to a plan that:

  • Extended an existing internal road to create a strong new axis through the site.
  • Placed the tourist facility on a knoll overlooking a rainforest bound creek.
  • Provided an area for a Cocoa plantation.
  • Managed stormwater with retention and artificial wetlands
  • Organised the cocoa processing and chocolate manufactuiring facility around road and cane tram links.
  • Included an industrial subdivision.
  • Divided the large site into distinct precincts with defined character and landscape.
  • Rationalise the area the mill used.
  • Provided public parkland and improved public access.

Pleasure Gardens

This magnificent site, surrounded by rainforested mountains, sits opposite the Boulders at the end of the Babinda Valley. Our clients had a vision of a private, botanical garden as a tourist destination. We helped them through town planning approvals, with a master plan of the gardens layout, facilities, reception and kiosk, car and bus parking and a detailed design of the reception building.

Port Douglas Caravan Park

This proposal for a new caravan park for Port Douglas endeavoured to recreate the winding ways of an old style established caravan park, rather than apply a regimented and characterless grid over the greenfields site.

The layout allowed for a central access route, with quieter circuits to each side. These drained to a landscaped swales, and were linked by pedestrian routes. An entertainment precinct wrapped alongside the creek with extensive native planting around and through the development.

Subdivision - Captain Cook Hwy

This proposal sought a modest subdivision of uneconomic rural land from three lots to six.

In return it provided significant environmental gains, including a large vegetated buffer at the entry to the now defunct Douglas Shire, and revegetation of waterways, including small dams, along with careful selection of house sites and environmental covenants.

Wonga Beach Tourist Park

This large parcel of beach front land had a previous approval for a caravan park which had been poorly planned. Studio Mango's revised proposal endeavoured to trade off some increased density in return for much better planning, including ponds and wetlands and a more organic layout.

It provided lots for camping and caravans, and cabins and villas with a large entertainment precinct and retention of existing vegetation.

Wuchopperen Health Service

Wuchopperen Health Service has a beautiful site in suburban Manunda, with some purpose built buildings from the nineties and a converted house.

They were very crowded, and wanted a master plan for future development to be undertaken strategically. Studio Mango surveyed the existing buildings and analysed their current and future needs. We undertook extensive consultation, including group workshops, and finished with an agreed master plan and report covering renovations, town planning, staging, accommodation and financial issues.

Wujal Wujal Sports and Recreation Precinct

This proposal sought Government funding for a sport and recreation precinct in Wujal Wujal on the Bloomfield River.

A range of facilities have been laid out on the largely flat site, with walking links to town and to a river fishing jetty. The proposal was fully costed from the plans including a design for a kiosk, toilets and change rooms.
