Nic Granleese

Nic is a senior architect at Studio Mango.

Nic began his professional career working as a student in Brisbane. He accepted work from a variety of sources; laboring, Architectural model making and even sometimes working in architectural practices. One of his more interesting sidelines was a research project with Liam Proberts to investigate the use of water as thermal mass in buildings. The outcome of which was a prototype desert pod with walls that filled with water.

In 2003 He travelled to the USA and worked with the building research organization (ASPI). His focus project was tree houses. A quirky but fun study of fixing buildings to living trees, a concept that has gained popularity in recent years.

After returning to Cairns in Late 2003 he worked with Circa 2000 for several years in residential and hospitality architecture and construction management. In 2007 he established his own practice Barcode 61, which he merged with Studio Mango in 2008.

Nic is a Queensland registered architect (#3891) and a member of the Australian Institute of Architects. He received a Bachelor of Architecture from Queensland University of Technology which included a year of study abroad at Politechnico Di Milano, Italy. He is also the current Cairns Secretary for the Australian Institute of Architects.
